We celebrated JD's 31st birthday yesterday so I wanted to keep the celebration going on the blog!
If there is one word I could use to describe a characteristic I've seen more than any other this past year in my husband, it would be humility.
It's no secret that the man is an absolute stud. Just two weeks ago, we were sitting at Another Broken Egg for my birthday breakfast and a sweet 80-year-old lady walked up to him and said, "It's the consensus of everyone in this restaurant that you need a license for those good looks! What are you doing in Huntsville when you need to be in Hollywood?!" He just sat there and laughed bashfully. It was the best!
But this kind of thing happens to him on a consistent basis. He can go to a place one time and he is instantly recognized the next time he goes there... and the next time after that. For example, while we were in Hawaii, we would have the same waiter most mornings. We saw the waiter out at another restaurant and I waved, saying, "ROGER! It's so great to see you!" He kind of looked at me strange then saw JD behind me and said, "Ooooh! Mr. Todd! Mr. and Mrs. Todd! How are you doing?" This also happens on quite the consistent basis. And I love it. Let's be honest, I could easily be offended - but I'm not. It makes my heart deeply satisfied, knowing that God blessed me with a man that people love to be around, that cares for people and that makes an impact on others just by simply being who he is.
The most beautiful thing about it? When these interactions happen, we laugh then he holds me closer and he tells me how much he loves me. He makes me feel secure and cherished.
Through it all, I've never seen him be haughty. We laugh about it because it seriously happens all the time to us now, but I believe people see - not only how handsome he is - but his kindness, the light of Christ shining brightly through him. He's approachable, memorable and considerate. He is gracious, generous and gentle (he also loves alliteration so I had to throw it in somewhere).
I am honored to walk beside this man as his wife and I am highly anticipating the adventures we'll enjoy together as a mom and dad! I cannot wait for our little Mia Kai to meet her daddy, the handsome stud that will love her unconditionally, with grace and adoration.
Also, I have to brag on what a champion he has been since we've returned from our most recent trip. We're finally putting in a custom closet after three years of having no shelving or racks in there (think mobile wardrobe rack and shoes lining the floor). JD has scraped the popcorn ceiling, removed the carpet and refinished the hardwoods in the closet. (The closet is going in next week - whoop whoop!) And he rearranged all of the furniture downstairs all by himself (moved a table out of the studio > moved metal desk from den into the studio > moved queen bed from nursery into den) then assembled the crib, glider and ottoman in the nursery. All in two weeks, people. This man. He knows how to make his wife happy! ;)
This also means that I'll be posting photos of the [almost] finished nursery soon!!
