My dear friend, Katie Calvert, has been responding to Psalm 126 through art for a couple of years. She boldly walked in obedience to the Holy Spirit’s nudging in pioneering an artistic response series at our church. When she introduced the idea to our worship leaders, they RAN with it beautifully, bringing great detail and intentionality to each artist’s story and piece. The vision of this series has become so much greater than any of us imagined and has introduced a great partnership between our pastors and artists within the church. It is a stunning collaboration and visual of Jesus at work. There was a total of ten featured artists partnering with a pastor this summer, each one responding to a different Psalm. I’m beyond grateful to be a part of a church that is working hard to welcome opportunities to work together with everyone’s various giftings within the Body! See below for my response to Psalm 139 along with my artist statement:

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)" Paul stresses the importance of scripture memory, to not only memorize God's Word, but to walk with Christ and encourage others with His Word.
The continuing of this verse encourages a deep level of intimacy within the believers' community... teach one another, admonish one another in all wisdom; sing together; be thankful together in your hearts to God. We need community. We need one another. It's the desire that God has created within us. When we first dwell in Christ, His love is an outpour - an overflow - into our communities. We are called to let the words of Christ dwell in us richly as a life-giving command for ourselves but also as a life-giving command for others. His words dwell in us and in return, pour out from our lips as truth to another as a form of accountability, love, wisdom and worship.
This is dwelling.
This is community.
This is worship.

I confess. I have an obsession with paper. And pens. And probably washi tape. Oh, and fun little paper clips. It only makes sense that I have always used a paper planner. I've tried Google Calendar. I'll use it every now and then for reminders but a paper planner has very rarely let me down. I can lay it out, skim the months' and weeks' plans, write random notes that are somehow easier for me to find than typing it into a search bar and make it pretty / practice handlettering or doodles!!
It just works for me. And it always has.
I've used my fair share of planners. A few years ago, I decided to design my own. Something that would work for me. I took concepts that I liked from planners I used since high school; brainstormed; designed it on paper; added tons of details that I needed on a monthly, weekly and daily basis; and finally built my perfect planner - which has actually ended up being the perfect planner for so many others!

DETAILS
Plan each day beautifully and thoroughly with the 171-page planner (86 front and back), bound with metal wire-O binding and featuring a list of nationally recognized holidays, weekly layouts, monthly layouts, an annual layout, scripture memory, goal planning and a section for brainstorming and notes in the back. Measuring 9" x 11", this agenda will fit perfectly in a large purse or will look real pretty sitting on top of your desk.
DWELL RICHLY
Last year's Dwell Richly scripture memory resource was a huge hit! God used His word in amazing ways to transform hearts and minds (including my own!!). It was such a joy to hear all about the ways our Father timed certain verses perfectly to fit with what was going on in your lives. We believe He will continue to do great things through the Dwell Richly verses. This year, we wanted to include more women in the preparation of the resource for this year. With a team of 23 women and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we have compiled the 2016 Dwell Richly verses and included them into every weekly and monthly layout. We will also offer the resource in a PDF format like we did last year. Thank you to the amazing 23 women who partnered with us to make it happen!!
tabs!!
You asked for them and you got them! This year's agenda features large, lovely tabs setting apart each month. Not only that, but we added a seasonal watercolor floral bouquet coupled with a clean monthly calendar on each main tab page. Are you drooling yet?
The opposite page is a primarily blank page just waiting for you to fill it with notes, journaling, brainstorming, and all kinds of awesomeness! You can use this page to begin the next month or use it to finalize the previous month. I plan on filling this page with lots of ideas (no matter how great or not-so-great they are), doodles and beauty. What will you fill the page with?
goal planning // scripture memory // all-things organized
List out your top goals for the month (personal, spiritual, relational, physical, you name it!), exciting things happening this month (big and small - any and every reason to celebrate!), and glimpses of grace (one of my favorite and much-needed sections). Use the etc. space for any brainstorming, illustrating or note-taking.
The second page of this spread includes the month's Dwell Richly verses for you to memorize (each week is also written on the weekly layouts); a place to list out projects around the house that need to be done, deep cleaned or bought (think curtains, pillows, new fixtures, etc.); a checklist entitled get it done for all of those tasks that need attention; and finally a section for special occasions (this is a great place to list out occasions such as birthdays, weddings, showers, etc. and write what needs to be done for those events such as planning it or purchasing a gift for the event).
the large monthly layout
Swoon. This is surprisingly one of my favorite parts of this agenda. I LOVE this large layout so that I can quickly glance at our family schedule when trying to plan weekend and weeklong events. The size of it leaves ample space for planning and lots of washi tape!! If you haven't experienced the combination of washi tape and planners - get ready to have your mind blown and your agenda beautified. My favorite sources for washi tape are Michaels and Hobby Lobby (gotta take full advantage of those coupons).
the strategic weekly layout
We tried to include everything you asked for this year in the weekly layout! Each day is listed vertically (without hours) featuring a box for you to write in your top goal for the day at the top and checkboxes for exercise and water intake at the bottom of each day. Fill in your top goals for the week at the top of the right side of the page. The bottom of the left page includes the meal planner for Monday through Sunday. You'll notice the letters S, W, and N as a place for you to circle your families' preferences on how dinner tasted: (S)taple, (W)inner, (N)ever again... because we all know that some Pinterest recipes win while others may not end up as victorious. On the opposite page, you'll find a two-column checklist for things to buy (you can use this as your grocery list, shopping list, whatever works best for you!) and a one-column checklist for must-do action items. Next to that, you'll see the month's calendar with the current week highlighted as well as the Dwell Richly verse for the week.
the cover
Could you ever get enough of this beauty? I don't think so. The gorgeous floral and feather illustrations were designed by the oh-so-talented Graphic Box. The front cover is adorned with breathtaking watercolor florals and paired with "2016 agenda" written in a sans serif font and hot pink brush script across the front. The bouquets flow onto the back cover to complete the design. The inside of the covers boast beautifully wild mint green brushed lines (see second photo of post).
Disclaimer: You asked for a hard cover in the survey but unfortunately, we are not able to offer that at the time. However, we worked with a different printing company this year (we love you Quality Quick Printing!!) and they worked with us to create a 110#, 16pt laminate cover. In other words, the covers are much more durable and thicker than last year. On the bright side, they're a lot lighter than a hard cover and just as beautiful. ;)

The Holy Spirit & A Free Scripture Memory Print // Romans 15:13
If you're following along with the Scripture Memory / Dwell Richly printable, here's the verse for week 11:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NIV)
This verse calls for a free print... seriously. In every study I'm going through, in every sermon or lecture JD and I have heard in the past four weeks, the Holy Spirit is the main focus. And yet the Holy Spirit immediately directs the attention right back to Jesus. I can't imagine that this topic is a coincidence. I'm embarrassed to say that I am constantly amazed by God - I mean, it's a good thing but shouldn't I know by now that God is God and He is consistently faithful in being great, just, merciful and loving? And yet He still shocks me by His goodness, His grace and His provision.
For those of you that don't know the backstory of the Dwell Richly printable: JD's sister (Theresa) and I were sitting at the dining room table at Christmas. I told her that I felt led to put together a supplemental tool for the 2015 Agendas. Within a few hours, the Spirit led us in creating the printable, without phones, apps or Google to help us find verses. It was such a sweet and beautiful time I will never forget with my sister-in-law, us depending solely on God and getting super excited about the verses to where the Lord would lead us.
The greatest thing has been to see the way God has orchestrated events in our lives to synchronize with the verses at the perfect timing. And by 'our,' I mean, all of the friends, myself included, who have texted or emailed me about the way God is speaking to them in the verses. This week has been no different.
The Holy Spirit is entirely infiltrating and transforming all of the knowledge I thought I knew about Him. Confession: For so long, I have thought of the Holy Spirit as a sidekick, a little brother who picked the short straw, the one in the Trinity who was least of the three. I referred to the Holy Spirit as an "it" because I failed to realize that the Holy Spirit is very much a person and very much relational. Even to talk about the Holy Spirit, it was a little 'too charismatic' for my southern baptist background. In John 16, Jesus says,
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. (John 16:7-15)
It blows my mind that Jesus says it is good for Him to go away, so that the Holy Spirit will come and dwell in us. But it was good. The Spirit teaches the truths of the bible to God's people (John 14:26), convicts people of their sinfulness and need for the Good News (John 16:8), gives believers power over sin (Galatians 5:16-21) and the power to live a fruitful life (Galatians 5:22-25), helps believers and prays for them in their human weakness (Romans 8:26-27), and affirms salvation and believers' identity as children of God (2 Thessalonians 2:13). My favorite is that the Holy Spirit, in all of His glory and responsibilities, His most important job is to bear witness to Jesus and to bring Him glory (John 15:16 and 16:14). God, the Holy Spirit, directs all of the glory straight back to God, the Son, who then directs the glory to God, the Father. I won't pretend to understand the mysteries (or even the non-mysteries, the actual things God lays out for us in scripture) of the Trinity but I'm deeply grateful for what the Spirit is revealing to me about Himself, and in return, what the Spirit is revealing to me about the Father and the Son. I pray that He is doing the same for you.
There are so many other amazing characteristics of the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to listen to the lesson given by Karen Burke about the characteristics of the Holy Spirit (all of the ones listed above came from this lesson): Journey Through John - The Holy Spirit
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

Your Scripture Memory Photos from the Week
What a joy it has been focusing on Colossians 3:16 with y'all this week! Whether you've been learning it by yourself or joining together with your family to learn it, thank you for sharing your photos. It's been super encouraging reading about the ways you're hiding God's Word in your heart. Please check out the amazing different ways everyone has been memorizing the verse this week:
Loving my new #dailyagenda from #jitneysjourneys and the supplemental guide to #scripturememory! It has rekindled my love for scripture journaling and has me filling up the pages this week. - Lyndsay A. {@artsyabel}
Didn't realize how much writing out a verse helped me to memorize it! I found myself quoting the one I memorized last week in a conversation without thinking about it. Is anyone else using the notes section as a journal? I'm writing a sweet memory down from each day in that spot. Will be fun to look through at the end of the year. - Caroline T.
In 2014, I wanted to see my faith grow exponentially. I prayed fearless prayers with the expectation of seeing God show up. I wasn't always great at it, and I'm definitely still growing. However, I can boldly say that I believe and trust him more than I did. In 2015, I want to KNOW His word. I want his word to have its home in my heart and mind! - Amy G. {@amegivens}
Our house is working on memorizing scripture! I used the translation that is found in our oldest son's bible so that it would be easier for our boys to remember. - Lindsey S.
We hope this is an encouragement to you and your family to memorize scripture together this year! If you haven't downloaded the free scripture memory printable, find it here. Have a fantastic weekend!
Japan // Scripture Memory: Week 1
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
Today marks Week 1 of the scripture memory resource (download it here). Join us as we memorize verses this month focusing on the importance of knowing scripture and the effects that flow from it. Whether you use index cards, jot it in your journal, or write it on your mirror, share how you're learning the verses by posting photos on Instagram and Facebook with #dwellrichly and #scripturememory. I will re-post tagged photos on the blog Friday. If the Lord speaks to you in any way through this process, we'd love to hear about that too (and share on the blog if you'll let us). Most importantly, we pray this journey is exciting, challenging, and refreshing for you. Here we go!
In other news, I realize that I haven't even posted about our trip to Japan!! Not even once! I really dropped the ball on that. We were there from early Nov. to mid-Dec. and it became, hands-down, one of our top favorite places. The people were incredibly kind and generous. The cities we visited in the country were absolutely stunning. The noodles were delicious (we didn't venture out a whole lot in the food realm). And the last week we were there, it was freezing. Literally, it snowed more than 2.5 FEET of snow in the last week. We've never seen anything like it. Did we play in the snow? Absolutely. We fell back into every large pile of snow we could find and even filmed the process. I'm sure several of the Japanese people, as kind as they were, thought to themselves, "Foolish Americans. They must be from the South."
As for the photo above: First off, don't you LOVE those hats?? Too stinkin' cute. At almost every temple or garden we visited, groups of young students would approach us and ask if they could speak to us in English (the teacher would stand back a few feet). They would ask us questions about ourselves: "What is your name?", "Where are you from?" Then they would pull out a pamphlet they made to show us popular cities and attractions in Japan. Finally, they gave us a small gift (such as origami) and asked if they could take a photo with us as the teacher quickly approached with camera in hand. What a perfect way to practice English! Can't wait to share more of our Japanese adventures with y'all soon!
Have a lovely Monday.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)" If you've been reading our blog throughout the past year or know me in real life, you know that I've been obsessed with this verse. Paul stresses the importance of scripture memory, to not only memorize God's Word, but to walk with Christ and encourage others with His Word.
This is worship.
an excerpt from Dwell (March 6, 2014)
So let's join in community together and memorize God's Word this year! We are so thrilled to release this free printable of 52 scripture memory verses for 2015. While this printable was created to supplement the Jitney's Journeys 2015 Daily Agenda, we encourage anyone and everyone to use this as a resource for scripture memory.
Format
While you are welcome to use this printable however you'd like, here's what we had in mind when designing it: Each weekly verse begins on a Monday; therefore, week 1 begins on January 5. The theme for each month has been built to interrupt you from typical monthly rhythms (i.e. "freedom" is in February instead of July and "gratitude" is in April instead of November).
This resource was designed to help you dive into scripture. Don't stop at memorizing the verses; meditate on them and ask God to speak to you through them. Seek opportunities to encourage other believers throughout the week by speaking the truths you're learning.
